Bugs and Fixes

REWARD:

There is an as yet unconfirmed report of XLMiner crashing during certain Time Series Analysis. We are offering a $100 reward plus a free year's license to the full version of XLMiner to the first person who can specify (such that we can reliably replicate the problem) the steps that will cause the current version of XLMiner (running on Windows XP and Excel 2000 or 2003). Contact support [at] xlminer.com if you think you have the answer. (March 2007)

Here is a list of known bugs, and fixes if available.

Excel crashes on exit in Windows NT.

December 4, 2002

Affects: Windows NT. Any version of Excel.

XLMiner provides online help in the HTML Help format. When Excel is closing, XLMiner has to close first. In doing that, it attempts to close any help files that may be open. If a help screen is indeed open, there is no problem. However, if a help screen is not open, the HTML Help API function malfunctions and causes Excel to crash.

Microsoft has acknowledged this as a known bug. Click here to read more.

Already fixed in the present download available.

"Enter a Number" error

January 20, 2003

On some input forms, you get an error message saying "Enter a number" even though you did enter numbers where appropriate.

This is a problem of validation of input on some dialogs which do not accept a number like ".45". Workaround: enter the value as "0.45" instead of ".45".

Fix will be available in the next upgrade patch.

"Compile Error in Module <some module name>"

June 26, 2003

Most likely cause is that you are using Excel-97

XLMiner does not run with Excel-97. You need Excel-2000 or Excel-XP to run it properly. Please see System Requirements

Problem with European Settings

June 26, 2003

At this time XLMiner does not support a number of European settings which use comma for decimal point and dot for thousand separator.

A future version of XLMiner will correct this problem. Until then, it is necessary to change to US English settings as a work-around. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Close Excel and XLMiner.
  2. From the Start button, open Control Panel.
  3. Open "Regional Options".
  4. On the "General" tab, for "Your locale (location)", choose "English (United States)".
  5. Click "OK" to close Regional Options.
  6. Launch XLMiner again.

We apologize for the inconvenience to European users. We are working on implementing support for European settings in the next release.

Error message on install: "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications."
