Important: Excel 2003 and 2007 use different file formats, and this makes a difference when using XLMiner.

    • Guidelines for Excel 2007 users: The files supplied in the data folder of XLMiner installation are Excel 2003 compatible .xls files. These can be opened with Excel2007. However, after you run XLMiner procedures on the file and want to save the file, we recommend you save it as Excel 2007 native format files with macro support. These are files with .xlsm extension. You can choose to keep them as .xls files, but this may cause the file size to increase sharply. You should not choose the .xlsx format because that does not support stored macros which are required for full-feature functionality of XLMiner.

    • Guidelines for Excel 2003 users: If you need to work with Excel 2007 files, use the Microsoft Compatibility Pack to enable Excel 2003 to open Excel 2007 files. However, while saving the file after running XLMiner on it, save it as Excel 2003 (.xls) file. You can download the free Compatibility pack from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en
